Traveling Alone with Someone Else

The Stockholm morning was well underway even though it was still dark at 8 AM. In the small coffee shop, standard-issue businessmen ordered coffees, black to-go, while impossibly tall blond women asked for skinny lattes. Both sexes were bundled in scarves and hats, prepared for the blustery sleet that slammed into the windows as if the wind wanted one of the lemony pastries in the case in front of me. It was my first morning in Sweden, having arrived the night before, and I needed fortification before tackling the city by myself on a cold day in mid-December. (more…)
